Our Story

We started with a modest garden in our Des Moines yard in 2016. Our goal was to try to live healthy and to try to limit our toxicity. Each year, we’d learn a little bit more about which products we wanted to avoid, how we can be less wasteful, and we’d try to grow more variety. During the first year of the pandemic though is when we really went for it. We moved away from Des Moines to our hometown of Holstein to closer to family, and grow a majority of vegetables. Greater inspiration struck in early 2021.

Our Inspiration

As we built on our hippie lifestyle, it never seemed like enough. We loved gardening and producing high quality food for our girls, but we wanted to do more for planet earth. Eco-anxiety often hits hard in our household.

We stumbled upon another book called Restoration Agriculture by farmer Mark Shepard. We aim to replicate his silvopasture perennial agriculture system that produces more nutrition per acre than modern row cropping.

Our Launch Point

Here want to say thank you to our friends and family for all their help and support. We specifically want to thank the Clausen Brothers for agreeing to try something a little different on a piece of their land. Being able to farm where so many in my family have before means so much to me.

My grandparents operated a Century Farm with their siblings. I was lucky enough to grow up on that farm. Now, they took a risk and allowed us to rent a corner. It means a lot that I am able to farm on the same land as my Grandpa’s Grandpa.
